Lazy Eye (Amblyopia)

Amblyopia, commonly known as lazy eye, is a condition characterised by reduced vision that cannot be corrected with glasses or contact lenses and is not associated with any other eye disease. It primarily occurs due to impaired coordination between the eye and the brain.

How is it treated?

A specially tailored pair of glasses is prescribed when amblyopia is caused by a refractive error. In some conditions, patching therapy may be prescribed, requiring the child to wear an eye patch over the “good” eye for a few hours a day to encourage the lazy eye to become more active. The duration of patching depends on the severity of the eye condition.
