Congenital ptosis refers to drooping eyelids present at birth or developing within the first year of life. This congenital condition is caused by complications with the muscle responsible for raising the eyelid, birth trauma, or the presence of an eyelid tumour or growth. If congenital ptosis is not corrected, especially in moderate or severe cases, it may lead to amblyopia (lazy eye).
Treatment for congenital ptosis is usually surgery.
